What is Dog Behavior Modification?

Behavior modification in dogs works to change behavioral issues that your dog may have. It deals with behavioral problems such as aggression towards people, other dogs and animals, fear, and anxiety. These problems can be caused by misunderstanding, stress and pressure, unpleasant past experiences, poor training, and/or mistreatment by previous owners. We work to build a strong, trusting bond with the dog along with a foundation in obedience to help get these issues in check and we understand that not every dog reacts the same way and are able to tailor the dog’s training to your specific needs.

Joe Secreti, himself, has over 30 years of experience dealing with dogs of all kinds, many that have severe behavioral issues. He has a natural knack for manipulating behaviors away from the negative ones your dog may have learned and towards a more favorable relationship. Many of Joe’s dogs over the years have been problematic and he has years of hands on experience training shelter dogs with unknown pasts, fighting dogs, bait dogs, environmentally deprived dogs, aggressive dogs, and fearful dogs with high levels of anxiety. The Maximum Canine staff has been trained to deal with and rehabilitate these dogs. Our trainers spend time evaluating the dog and family, understanding the needs of both, and implementing a plan to obtain the best possible relationship between the two. We offer virtual or in-store evaluations to determine the best course of training for you and your dog.

Behavior Modification Programs:

Private Behavioral Modification + Lifetime Class Eligibility

(6+) 55-minute sessions

Location: Maximum Canine Facility 

Starting price: $900

If our evaluation determines that a private training package is right for you and your dog, we recommend a minimum of (6) 55 minute sessions. We will come up with a specific plan to help you and your dog achieve a happy, trusting relationship and continuously re-evaluate the plan to adjust it to your dog’s needs. Depending on the issue, we will implement basic obedience using a balanced training method, trust building exercises, and a structured hierarchy to help correct any behavioral issues your dog might have. This program allows us to start your training without unwanted distractions to make as much progress as possible. When you have completed this package, you and your dog are eligible to attend our Lifetime Classes which will help keep your dog’s issues in check and help you learn to manage them around various distractions.

Board and Train Behavioral Modification + Lifetime Class Eligibility

4+ weeks

Location: Maximum Canine Facility 

Starting cost: $4800

If during your evaluation, we determine that the best program for you and your dog is a board and train program, your dog will stay with us for—in general—a minimum of four (4) weeks. This program is good for correcting fear, resource guarding, family dominance, and reactivity. We will introduce your dog to a balanced training lifestyle, using a combination of obedience, trust building, and structured hierarchy to make your dog a happy and healthy member of your family. During this time we bring your dog to different locations and have multiple people handle your dog to teach your dog to listen everywhere it goes and around distractions such as other dogs, loud noises, objects, people, and new sights and smells. This program includes 3 private, 55 minute, training sessions at our facility and 3 private, 60 minute, training sessions at a location of your choosing to help you perfect your communication with and understanding of your dog and help your dog fully integrate back into family life. We strongly recommend that at the completion of this package you attend lifetime classes to continue to fine-tune your relationship and communication with your dog.

Board and Train Severe Behavioral Modification + Lifetime Class Eligibility

6+ weeks

Starting cost: $6800

For more intense behavioral issues, we may recommend a minimum of six (6) weeks. This program is useful to correct human aggression, dog aggression, biting, etc. in dogs that have little to no obedience foundation. The keys to fixing behavioral problems are time and understanding. We will teach your dog the foundations of obedience which we can use to show the dog what behaviors are wanted and what behaviors are unacceptable. We will also build your dog’s trust in its handler and establish a hierarchy to help ensure that your dog understands what is needed from it. This program includes 3 private, 55 minute, training sessions at our facility and 3 private, 60 minute, training sessions at a location of your choosing to help you perfect your communication with and understanding of your dog and help your dog fully integrate back into family life. We strongly recommend that at the completion of this package you attend lifetime classes to continue to fine-tune your relationship and communication with your dog.
